The rugged hilly landscape from Curacao is inviting you for a hike or mountain bike ride. Jan Thiel was a salt plantation, enabling us to access the salt lake reserve from the gate in our backyard. This nature reserve is a breeding ground for many tropical birds and a feeding spot for our residence flamingos. Get mesmerized by the beautiful light early morning! At Jan Thiel Beach you could go diving, play beach tennis, try out Flyboarding or just a relaxing swim in the azure blue ocean.
Indigo was also grown on the estate. The leaves of this crop were soaked in stone containers – they are still there – to make the famous deep blue dye.
In earlier times, the grounds of Plantation Jan Thiel ran all the way to the shoreline. This beach location still exists and today is one of Curaçao’s most popular tourist attractions.
